EU rural aid scheme serves own masters

EU funds for rural areas through the LEADER programme appear to be a self-service buffet for local actors, without proper evaluation, new Danish research has revealed.

The programme is financed by EU structural funds with the aim of encouraging and helping rural actors to think about the longer-term potential of their area.

A total of €5,046.5 million for the period 2000-2006 will be spent under the program.
