Mandelson to push for China textiles probe

Trade commissioner Peter Mandelson will advise the college to launch a formal investigation into Chinese textile and clothing imports next week.

Mr Mandelson will also brief EU trade ministers during an informal meeting on Sunday night in Luxembourg.

His decision follows an analysis of first quarter 2005 customs statistics, and could lead to EU measures limiting the influx of low-cost fibres and garments from the Asian dragon.
