The resignation of Palestinian Prime Minister, Abu Mazen (also known as Mahmoud Abbas) has triggered EU foreign policy makers to announce the forging of a "comprehensive political initiative" for the Middle East.
At a meeting of 25 European foreign ministers in Italy on Saturday (6 September), the Italian Foreign Minister, Franco Frattini, spoke of "serious risks of instability" in the region.
