Call for Union to act against Palestinian groups

The White House on Friday, (22 August) froze the accounts of six Palestinian political and military leaders who it says "command and control terrorist activity."

President George W. Bush coupled the freeze with a call on Europeans to take similar action.

The move came after the Palestinian militant group Hamas last week took responsibility for a suicide bomb attack in Jerusalem and ended an eight-week cease-fire with Israel.
