Outgoing President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi, has made a passionate plea for voters not to reject the European Constitution, saying that to do so would be a "tragedy".
In an interview with La Croix newspaper, Mr Prodi said, "The text is a good compromise, it's a step forward. If the Constitution is rejected by one country, we will see what we can do. If several countries reject it, it will be a tragedy. A mortal blow for the European political project".
