Brussels starts legal action against Spain on energy law

The European Commission on Wednesday (3 May) started legal action against Spain following moves by Madrid to block the takeover of energy group Endesa by Germany's E.ON.

In a statement the commission said it will send the Spanish government a "letter of formal notice" which is the first stage of infringement proceedings.
