In a landmark ruling by the European Court a doctor has been told time spent at the hospital - on call but resting - counts as working time, a decision which is likely to have massive repercussions for European business and lead to huge cost increases.
Dr Norbert Jaeger from Kiel, Germany brought the case to court, complained that he was consistently overloaded with work since he was forced to go on call after working several regular hospital shifts in a row.
