Commission attacks national tax laws in four member states

The European Commission has taken action against tax laws in four EU member states – Spain, Portugal, Greece and Germany - claiming they discriminate against foreigners or otherwise infringe European Union rules.

On Monday (16 January) Spain was referred to the EU court over two tax provisions for expats.

Under existing Spanish law, official residents pay only 15 percent tax on gains from property sales, while non-residents - even if they are European Union nationals - are taxed ...
